During the editing process, all Vimeo members have the ability to add text to a video made with Create. The text will be displayed over an individual scene (photo or a video clip), and a title slide will appear as a separate scene.
Note: Cutaway scenes cannot be duplicated or split.

Web
To add text:

- Select the scene to which you would like to add text.
- Click on “Text” on the top left hand side.
- A new window will pop up. Add your message and click on “Done”. You can choose to highlight the text. (A maximum of 10 text boxes can be added per scene..)
- Your text will now appear in your scene and as a bubble in the “Timeline” below the scene. You can now edit the text to your liking using the “Text” panel at the right hand side.
- 5. On the scene itself, you can click on the “Edit” button to edit your text.
- 6. You can click on the three dots to copy/paste, duplicate, delete or arrange your box.
In the “Text” panel on the right hand side you can:
- Change the animation of the text. You can see a preview of the animation by clicking on the arrow and hovering over each animation style.
- Adjust the scale of your text by moving the slider right or left. You can also manually enter the text size number to the right of the slider.
- Select a font from our supported fonts list and align the text in the text box by clicking on the Align Left, Align Center, or Align Right icon. You can also add a drop shadow to your text.
- Choose the color of your text, highlight, and background, and adjust the background opacity.
In the “Timeline” below the scene you can:
- Adjust the duration of the text on the scene by dragging each side of the orange bubble.
- Drag and drop the entire bubble to move the timing of the text in the scene.
- Rearrange the timing of multiple text boxes in one scene by clicking on the text bubble with the first 3 letters of the text that correspond to that text box.
iOS
- Select the scene to which you would like to add text.
- Tap on the “+” icon at the bottom of the screen, and select ‘Text’ in the menu that opens. You can add up to 10 text boxes per scene and each text box can include up to 100 characters.
- A new window will open. Add your message and tap ‘Done’. In this step, you can also choose to highlight the text.
- To change the automatic duration, tap on the auto-duration icon (available on image scenes only). Automatic duration sets the timing of the text box automatically according to Create’s AI engine. You can also manually change the duration of the text by dragging the sides of the orange bubble on the timeline bar. To change the position of a text box in the timeline, long-press the bubble and drag it.
- The text boxes can be displayed in different parts of the scene or altogether during the whole scene duration. The minimum and maximum time a text box can be displayed is 0.5 seconds to 10 minutes.
- You can add multiple text boxes in a scene, each one will be represented by an icon above the text bubble with the first three letters of the text.
- To review your scene edits, tap on the play icon on the left corner below the media.
Text Editing
You can edit each text box to your liking using the editing options at the bottom of the screen. Make sure to tap on the text box you want to edit to open the editing options. Tap “Done” once you’re happy with the results. If you’d like to go back to the editor view, tap on the arrow to hide the editing options.
- Edit: Edit and highlight; select the text you want to highlight and tap ‘Highlight’
- Animation: Change the animation style
- Color: Change the color
- Fill: Depending on the animation you chose, you can add a fill to the interior of the text box
- Font: Change the font
- Shadow: Add drop shadow and select the intensity
- Alignment: Align the text within the text box
- Size: Drag the slider to increase or decrease the size of the text box
- Remove: Delete the text box
The editor is a toolbar that is available on the top of the screen when editing videos that allow you to make simple edits to the text, stickers, and other functions in the video. In the editor you can find the following editing options:
- Undo / Redo: You can undo recent edits by tapping on the icon. To redo an edit, long-press the Undo button. If an edit cannot be undone, the Undo icon will be grayed out.
- Duplicate: To duplicate a text box, tap on the duplicate button
- Arrange Overlay Elements: If you have multiple elements in a scene, you can arrange them in layers by bringing them to the front/back.
You can also tap on the storyboard icon to open the storyboard and edit/rearrange the video scenes.
Android
To add text in a specific place in your video, you can scroll through the timeline or drag the needle until you’ve reached your desired timestamp. To add text:
- Select the scene to which you would like to add text.
- Tap on the “+” icon at the bottom of the screen, and select ‘Text’ in the menu that opens. You can add up to 10 text boxes per scene and each text box can include up to 100 characters.
- A new window will open. Add your message and tap the blue check in the top right corner. In this step, you can also choose to highlight the text.
- To change the automatic duration, tap on the auto-duration icon (available on images scenes only). Automatic duration sets the timing of the text box automatically according to Create’s AI engine. You can also manually change the duration of the text by dragging the sides of the orange bubble on the timeline bar. To change the position of a text box in the timeline, long-press the bubble and drag it.

You can add a scene by tapping on the “plus” circle on the bottom of the screen. Tap on “New scene” and choose between photos and videos or a title scene.
