Background effects on Vimeo Create allow you to design more unique, engaging videos, by removing backgrounds surrounding a main image, applying background effects to a video, and more. Once an effect is applied, the main media can also be moved and shifted between layers of text.

Add effects on web
The Background effects menu is shown in the settings on the right side of the editor:
By selecting an effect, the background of a main hero image will be modified or replaced:
The following Background effects are available on the web browser:
- None
- Replace (add media)
- Remove
- Once the background is removed, you can drag the main image and crop it out of the frame as desired.
- Light blur
- Blur
- Lighten
- Darken
- B&W
Add effects on mobile
To apply background effects using the Vimeo Create mobile app, select your main media and then the Background effect button in the bottom menu.
You can then scroll through the list of effects to apply them to your media.
The following Background effects are available via the mobile app:
- None
- Replace (add media)
- To create a custom background from your own library, tap the Add media icon and then open the gallery. The media you select will then fill the background.
- Remove
- Once the background is removed, you can drag the main image and crop it out of the frame as desired.
- Light blur
- Blur
- Lighten
- Darken
Dragging the main image
Once a background effect has been applied, you have the option to select the main hero image and drag it across the slide.
Layering media and text
In order to adjust the layers of your media:
- Select the image or text box.
- Click the (•••) menu.
- Select Forward or Back.
