Vimeo Pro, Business, Premium, and Enterprise members can now add chapter markers that will appear during playback of their embedded videos and in showcases. Chapters are ideal for long-form content like lessons, training sessions, sermons, recitals, sports games, and narrative storytelling. Adding chapters helps your viewer create a self-guided viewing experience, and allows them to easily navigate to relevant segments to find content faster.
You’ll also be able to see which chapters get the highest engagement, and track engagement rates by chapter.
Please note: Chapters only appear in your embedded videos at this time. The on-site experience of your videos (i.e. on vimeo.com) will not include any chapters you’ve added. This also means that chapters are not supported on review pages.
Adding chapters to your video
To add chapters to your video, head to the Interaction tools tab of the video’s settings. Under the Chapters section, click + New. This will create a new chapter.
You need to enter a title for your chapter, and add the timestamp for when you want it to be placed in your video and on the progress bar.
You can add up to one chapter per second of your video. Once you’re done editing your chapters, hit the Save button.
Editing chapters
To edit an existing chapter, you can select the chapter’s title or timestamp and edit the text box.
Removing chapters
To remove a chapter, hover over the chapter you want to remove and hit the garbage can icon. Remember to hit save!
Limitations:
- Any one Vimeo video has a limit of 100 chapters
- Chapter titles are limited to 50 characters
Viewing chapters on desktop vs. mobile
Chapters are only supported on a Desktop viewing experience. On mobile devices, the chapter markers aren’t visible, only the chapters menu is.
Analytics for chapters
Chapters will also appear in your analytics section so you can match the graphs to where your users are engaging the most.
